How to Find a Dermatologist in Atlanta and College Park

How to Find a Dermatologist in Atlanta and College Park

When you’re looking for a dermatologist, it can feel incredibly overwhelming, particularly in the Atlanta area where there are so many from which to choose.  Since you are literally putting yourself in your dermatologist’s hands, you want to make sure that the doctor you select is someone you can trust.  As you begin your search, there are a few things you should look out for when you’re considering doctors.

Do your research

Find out everything you can about the dermatologists you’re considering.  You want a doctor who has a significant amount of experience in dermatology and knows what they’re talking about.  Make sure the dermatologist you choose has plenty of knowledge and practice with a wide variety of procedures.

Look at the doctor’s credentials

Training and experience are important here, so choose a doctor with an impressive educational history who is Board-certified in dermatology.  Doctors can perform dermatological services whether or not they are actually trained in dermatology.  Do your homework and make sure your doctor is Board-certified in this specialty to ensure that you seeing an expert in the medicine/procedure they’re performing on your skin.  Dr. Sherrie-Ann Straughn, for example, is an Emory, Stanford and Johns Hopkins educated, Board-certified, a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, and is affiliated with Piedmont Hospital.  These impressive credentials show that she is not only a specialist, but is trusted by well established medical institutions.  Try the American Academy of Dermatology to search for Board-certified dermatologists in Atlanta.

Look for a doctor respected in the industry

You want a doctor who provides expert opinions and is respected by the medical industry as well as by the community they serve.  In addition to medical credentials, look for other examples of industry esteem.  For example, in addition to her strong educational credentials, Dr. Sherrie-Ann Straughn enjoys referrals from other Atlanta area physicians because of her extensive experience and credentials.  So you can be truly confident that this is a dermatologist in Atlanta to whom you can trust your skin.

Get referrals from people you trust

Start with referrals from your primary care doctor, and follow up by talking to people in the Atlanta area, as well as talking to people you know.  Word of mouth matters, and people will tell you how they really feel about their experiences with dermatologists.  If you’ve heard a doctor’s name a lot from people you know, there’s a reason.  Look into why they’ve chosen the dermatologist they work with.

Choose someone who explains complications and how to resolve them

Look for a dermatologist who is realistic about the potential complications of procedures you’re interested in.  They should be able to tell you how they’ll address those complications (and ideally avoid them), should they arise.  A good dermatologist will understand your skin type and how various procedures could affect your skin in particular.  In Atlanta, for example, you’ll want someone experienced in treating sun damage for a variety of skin tones and types.

The right dermatologist will understand your skin and how to treat it safely and effectively for the best results possible.  Though there are many dermatologists to choose from in Atlanta and College Park, few have the kind of impressive experience and vast knowledge that Dr. Sherrie-Ann Straughn has.

Consider location

Dr. Sherrie-Ann Straughn has practiced in Atlanta for over 20 years, and in College Park for the past 10 years.  The Atlanta location is in Buckhead, just off Pharr Road.  The College Park location is just south of Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport on Phoenix Blvd.

Follow the 6 steps above to find the ideal dermatologist for you.

Glad to have found a dermatologist in College Park. I work at the airport. It is hard to find medical services nearby.
